Standard configuration P.08 Luger manufactured by Mauser under contract for the German military during World War II. The receiver is stamped "42" over the chamber, with Mauser "(Eagle) / 135" waffenamts followed by an eagle firing proof on the right. Toggle bears Mauser's "byf" manufacturer code. Metal components are blued, with the frame being mounted with 2-piece checkered walnut grips. Magazine is blued, with the bottom being comprised of black plastic. All numbers are matching, including the grips, which are faintly stamped on the interior of the panels. Grips has been revarnished at one point in time. The frame is unusual in that while it exhibits standard Mauser machining marks and a standard Mauser machined stock lug, the right side of the frame bears a cutout for a hold-open device, which is unheard of on Mauser production frames. It is possible that Mauser utilized a pre-existing DWM frame as was done early in Mauser Luger production, but this cataloger has not been able to confirm this. Pistol is accompanied by 1 non-matching wood bottom magazine. CONDITION: Very good to excellent, with metal components retaining the vast majority of their original arsenal applied blue finish, exhibiting some scattered losses on the barrel, some spots of light oxidation overall, as well as some areas of light wear from operation of the action. Mirror bore, exhibiting well defined rifling throughout. Grips are excellent, as revarnished, exhibiting some impressions and scattered handling marks overall. An extremely unusual Mauser World War II production P.08 Luger. MLW
