Circa 1870s. 7 - 3/4" double edged blade with center fuller on both sides, etched on obverse with several Victorian male and female characters including a cigar-smoking man and a scantily clad dancer, a jester type figure, and various other Victorian caricatures. Marked with a second series British registry mark for November 6, 1871 (a registration for legal protection of the handle design). Pressed horn handle in knobbed style with inlaid pearl discs inside brass rosettes; scalloped guard with silver plating, nickel silver ferrule. 12 - 1/2" overall length. Morocco leather sheath with nickel silver tip and throat. CONDITION: In superb condition overall, the blade is unsharpened with mostly original finish and some scattered spots; no issues with handle, plating is worn from high points on the guard. Sheath missing frog stud or similar attachment, two holes in leather on reverse side, minimal scuffing. A unique and very fine double edged bowie style knife of the later 1800s era with intriguing etched scene unlike any we have encountered. Formerly part of the Tommie Jones collection.
