Almost certainly of German origin, with Germanic motifs throughout. Receiver is a WWI era Winchester M1917 with Germanic oak leaf engraving on a punch dot background and an engine tuned Eddystone bolt. The oak leaf engraving flows onto the chamber of the tapered 20" .30-06 chambered barrel terminating in a point with a few additional scrolls. Barrel is mounted with a hooded sporting front sight and an adjustable rear aperture sight. Full length checkered walnut Mannlicher stock with blued steel nose cap, checkered plastic grip cap, and checkered plastic butt plate. The left side of the stock is inlayed with a well executed running boar and a branch of oak leaves in bone, with the right side featuring an inlayed stag with a similar oak branch. Additional branches of inlayed oak leaves are found near the action. The Winchester bottom metal is richly engraved with a wonderful standing bear vignette surrounded my further oak leaf engraving. Rifle is complete with a leather sling. CONDITION: Very good. Significant amounts of blued finish are retained with engraved areas a pleasing gray patina. Stock has field impressions and some spots of finish loss. Inlays are intact with a couple minor splits. Very good strong bore and fine mechanics. BAS
