This fowler is featured as plate 102.MM on pg. 152 of "Battle Weapons of the American Revolution" by George C. Neumann. He states that it has a Boston association. The note states "Author's Collection". The round barrel is unmarked. The round barrel is unmarked. Early Dutch banana lockplate with period-replaced brass pan and an iron repair to reinforce neck of cock. The brass furniture includes a stylized serpentine sideplate, a British military type buttplate with 4-stage tang terminating in a ball, Brown Bess ramrod ferrules, and an American trigger guard. The iron trigger features a rearward curl. Stocked in highly figured tiger maple with a classic Massachusetts club butt form. Relief shell design carved around barrel tang. Very nice sheet-brass-wrapped repair to wrist, tacked with iron and copper nails. Repaired extension to the back tang of trigger guard. Complete with a later associated ramrod. CONDITION: Barrel retains a dark heavy patina. Lock retains a matching dark patina. Brass retains a pleasing mustard patina. Stock has front 39" replaced as well as spinners replaced in front of lock, along barrel on both sides. A very attractive and documented fowler with a nice early repair. DMG
