On a forum with photos of this rifle, Ken Gehaygen writes "I've made two copies of the Wm. Antes rifle one in 2015 and the second one in 2016. I really like the simplicity of this gun and the great early German architecture. This is the gun that has the two walnut strips added to the underside of the butt and cheekpiece. Why walnut when the gun is stocked in maple is an interesting question. This gun is aged quite heavily to replicate the original. Ian and I thought this would be a good starting point.". This well-made and robust rifle features a heavy rifled two-stage barrel with a brass inlaid oval surrounded by brass wire inlays. Early Germanic type lock with unbridled pan. Brass furniture with an inlaid large Allentown "Indian head" or "Liberty head" on the wrist. Tiger maple stock with relief carved symmetrical design around barrel tang and incised geometric designs behind ramrod entry ferrule and in front of trigger guard. Shaped relief panels around lock and sideplate. Simple incised C-scolls on left side of butt. Thick strip of walnut inlaid into bottom of cheekpiece and along toe of the rifle's buttstock. CONDITION: Very well-aged. Lock does not hold in cock or half-cock positions. Shows little or no use. A very attractive and well aged rifle. DMG

CORRECTION: The correct spelling is of Ken's last name is Gahagan. Additionally, there was an error and Ian Pratt was not involved in this project.
