This short musket is shown and described as plate M.37 on pg. 78 of George Neumann's "History of Weapons of the American Revolution". Neumann states: "This short musket is the type believed carried by the French Artillery. Its typical iron furniture follows the 1768 pattern (See M.31). The lock is full-size and the rammer is trumpet-shaped. It was made at the Maubeuge Manufactory (lock marked MANUF MAUBEUGE). Also present is a crown over the inspector's mark "B". Note how the piece of flint in the cock was usually held in a strip of lead or leather.". The walnut stock features a silver eye-shaped inlay on the right side of the buttstock. CONDITION: All iron components retain a dark brown patina. Lock is in its original flintlock configuration, has excellent markings, and functions well. Top jaw and jaw screw on cock are replacements. Stock retains a dark surface showing scattered marks from use, center band spring is absent. A very nice Neumann-pictured Revolutionary War piece. DMG
