Remington M1862 percussion contract rifle musket, dated 1863. 33" blued round barrel in .58 caliber with blade front sight, saber bayonet lug on right side of barrel, and 3 leaf military rear sight. Barrel is dated 1863 near breech with typically seen “VP” proof on left side and “STEEL R.K.A.” just above wood line. 1 piece walnut stock and forearm with brass nosecap, barrel bands, trigger guard, storage compartment (compartment has spare nipple inside), and US marked brass military buttplate. Stock bears "HDJ" and "BH" cartouches on left stock flat opposite lock. Complete with correct type saber bayonet with scabbard. CONDITION: Excellent for its age, with nearly all of the original bluing remaining with light freckling throughout. Brass components are a mellow patina. Lock has faded to a gray patina. Stock is excellent as cleaned and cartouches sharpened. Mechanically fine. Bore is bright with sharp rifling. Bayonet is very good with light storage related freckling and handling marks on blade. Scabbard is excellent with light handling marks and tight stitching.
