Lot consists of: (A) Civil War Ames Model 1840 artillery saber. Made for artillery mounted units, this edged weapon is stamped on the ricasso “U.S. / W.D." in block format while the reverse ricasso has "AMES MFG CO / CABOTVILLE / 1849". Both markings are deep and crisp. Saber has a 32 - 1/4” long, curved, single edged steel blade with a flat top, and a single wide fuller. Blade is in very good polish with only slight handling scratches and light mossing spots, and then is mirror bright on some areas. Blade’s true edge in excellent shape, with 1 tiny nick. Brass hilt, including the pommel is a rich dark golden patina. Original grips and wire twist are strong and tight. Small number "9" stamped on top of brass grip on right hand side. The iron scabbard exhibits a dark appearance overall with a small "9" stamped on the drag. The large, iron mounts are tight and hold the 2 sword rings. Scabbard collar and throat are tight. Scabbard is in very good condition. (B) M1840 musicians sword marked "J.S. H.D.H. 1864 Made by AMES MFg Co. CHICOPEE". 34 - 1/2" overall 28" blade with nice factory tip and cross polish above the ricasso. Mellow brass patina overall. CONDITION: Both very good overall. BRM.
