These pistols were approved for the British Navy on May 19th, 1913. This example falls into the third shipment of guns between 5/4/1915 and 7/13/1915; see "Webley & Scott: Automatic Pistols" by Gordon Bruce for further reading. Standard configuration with blade front sight, dovetailed U notch flat top rear sight. Left side of slide with Webley & Scott winged bullet logo, "WEBLEY & SCOTT Ltd / PISTOL SELF-LOADING 455 MARK I N / 1916", right with a "(Crown) / V" proof. Numerous British proofs observed throughout including broad arrows, "(Crown) / G9 / B", "(Crown) / 55 / B", "(Crown) / P7". Ring hammer. Grip safety numbers matching to gun. Rotatable lanyard loop. CONDITION: Good. Metal retains about a third of a reapplied English bluing, probably period and possibly factory, as some proofs show distension while others are partially obliterated. Numerous areas of brown patina coming up, mostly on slide and barrel. Some silvering to reciprocating areas. Grips are very good with minor handling marks and impressions, moreso on right scale than left. Mechanically fine (excepting slide tendency to hang up approximately halfway through travel), bore is very good with strong rifling and light even frosting. EMW
