Pomeroy produced 7,000 Model 1840 muskets under contract from 1840 to 1846, with this example converted to percussion in the Belgian cone in barrel style. 42" barrel marked at the breech "US / JH" with a sunken intaglio "P" proof. Tang dated "1844". Lock plate bears federal eagle over "L. POMEROY" markings at the center with "1843 / U.S." vertically at the tail. Stock is walnut remaining in full military configuration retaining faint cartouches on the left flat. Standard iron mounts including 3 spring retained barrel bands, narrow lock bolt plate, and "US" butt plate. CONDITION: Very good. Iron components exhibit a mottled gray-brown patina with some light cleaned oxidation near the nipple. Stock has been cleaned with a few remaining impressions. Mechanically fine. BAS
