Type III configuration with Belgian style cone conversion to percussion. Standard length 42" .69 caliber smoothbore National Army Bright finished barrel. Lock plate marked at the tail "SPRING / FIELD / 1839" and with a federal eagle over "U.S." stamped ahead of the cock. Full length oil finished walnut stock with 2 faint cartouches stamped behind the lock bolt plate, and an additional one along the wrist. Standard Charleville styled iron mounts including 3 spring retained barrel bands and a "US" marked butt plate. CONDITION: Very good. Iron components have a speckled gray-brown patina with some cleaned oxidation near the breech. Stock has been cleaned with some light, scattered impressions remaining. Mechanically fine. BAS
