Manufactured between 1861 and 1863 by the Moore's Patent Firearms Co. of Brooklyn, New York. This is a seven shot un-fluted cylinder with an octagonal barrel. Post front sight with a V notch rear sight cut into the hammer. Factory floral engraved silver-plated brass frame. Single action with 1-piece varnished wood grip. Top of barrel reads "MANFD FOR SMITH & WESSON BY MOORE'S PAT. FIRE ARMS CO." It was marked this way because it violated Rollin White's bored through cylinder patent used by Smith & Wesson. Moore lost a lawsuit against him from Smith and Wesson and had to mark them this way and turn them over to Smith & Wesson. CONDITION: Cylinder and the barrel assembly retain 50% of the original blue finish with the remainder turning a pleasing even brown patina. Silver plating is approximately 90%. Grip shows some moderate wear to the varnish. Dark bore showing some frosting in the lands and grooves. A desirable Civil War revolver. REW
