Approximately 14,000 rifled muskets of similar pattern to the standard federal M1861 musket were delivered to Connecticut in 1862 and 1863, seeing use in the Civil War. Standard 40" National Armory Bright .58 caliber rifled barrel with bayonet lug front sight and L shaped rear sight. Later style undated percussion lock stamped with a very large federal eagle and panoply of flags over "WHITNEYVILLE". Full length walnut stock mounted with a pewter nose cap, 3 spring retained barrel bands, 2-piece trigger guard, and unmarked butt plate. Complete with tulip head ram rod. CONDITION: Very good. Metal components remain bright with some cleaned spots of older oxidation. Lock has taken on a mottled brown-gray patina. Stocks have an honest dark aged appearance with some expected bruises. Dark bore with defined rifling. Mechanically fine. BAS
