Springfield Model 1842 percussion musket, dated 1849. 42" round barrel in .69 caliber smoothbore with brass blade front sight integral to double strapped barrel band. 1-piece plain walnut stock in 3-barrel band musket configuration complete with US marked military buttplate. Stock bears faint "JS" cartouche on left stock flat opposite lock. CONDITION: Fair to good, with iron components chemically turned a brown-gray patina with heavy abrasion near breech from extensive use. Nipple has been flattened into bolster. Barrel markings are illegible. Stock is good as heavy handling marks, small crack near lock retaining screw, and heavy burnout near hammer. Hammer locks back on full cock but does not have half cock. Bore is dark.
