Approximately 12,800 rifled muskets were delivered by Charles B. Hoard of Watertown, New York from 1863 to 1865. This example remains in standard configuration with 40" National Armory Bright barrel with bayonet lug front sight and 3 position rear. Percussion lock is dated "1864" and marked "U.S. / WATERTOWN" with federal eagle. Full length walnut stock bearing boxed "C. B. HOARD" maker mark in addition to script "RPB" and "FEM" inspector cartouches. Standard iron mounts including 3 spring retained barrel bands, 2-piece trigger guard, and "US" marked butt plate. CONDITION: Fine. Bright components have softened with some areas of cleaned pinprick oxidation, especially around the breech, and some larger pits around the muzzle. Stock shows some scattered impressions with markings remaining crisp. Strong bore. Mechanically fine. BAS
