Springfield Model 1842 percussion musket, rifled for the state of Ohio by Miles Greenwood of Cincinnati for use by Ohio militia in 1861 during the Civil War. 42" barrel in .69 caliber with brass blade front sight integral to front double strapped barrel band and no provision for rear sight. Lock and barrel are dated 1846. Left side of barrel is marked with VP eagle proof. 1 piece walnut stock in 3 barrel band configuration with US marked buttplate. Marked with "OHIO" ownership marking on left flat of stock opposite lock and top of wrist. Faint cartouche on left flat opposite lock. CONDITION: Very good with iron components turned a light gray-brown patina with light freckling throughout. Stock is very good as cleaned with no major signs of distress. Left and right side of buttstock were written on/initialed at one point but are now illegible. Mechanically fine. Bore is lightly frosted with crisp rifling.
