US Model 1840 musket originally manufactured by Pomeroy and dated 1844. 42" round barrel in .69 caliber with brass blade front sight integral to front double strapped barrel band. Bottom mounted bayonet lug. Barrel is marked with P proof mark and is dated 1844 on tang near breech. 1 piece walnut stock and forearm in 3 barrel band configuration with US marked buttplate. Left flat of stock opposite lock bears "JH" and "WAT" cartouches. Converted to percussion and rifled in the period of the early 1840s to mid 1850s likely by a National Armory. Accompanied by a leather sling. CONDITION: Very good, with metal turned a dull gray patina with light freckling throughout. Stock is very good as lightly cleaned with sharp cartouches and no major signs of distress. Mechanically fine. Dark bore with visible rifling.
