Manufactured in 1875 in standard configuration. 32 - 5/8" barrel chambered in .45-70 with faint proofs over the breech, blade front sight, and rifle rear sight. High arch breech block bears early style "MODEL / 1873 / (Eagle Head) / (Crossed Arrows) / US" markings. Lock plate marked "U.S. / SPRINGFIELD / 1873". Full length walnut stock with the inventor's script "ESA" Erskine Allen inspector cartouche and encircled "P" firing proof. Standard iron mounts. CONDITION: Very good. Metal components have drifted to a plum brown patina throughout with some areas of freckling. Stock has some expected wear and impressions, in addition to a small spit across the forward lock bolt. Fine bore with sharp rifling. Crisp mechanics. BAS
