Very nice small World War I medal grouping identified to Private Virgil Harris Mulkey, who enlisted in the United States Marine Corps 2 weeks before the Armistice was signed. Despite the war’s end, Virgil continued training and hoped to be sent to Germany for post-War occupation duty. However, he contracted diphtheria in the winter of 1919, which put an end to his military career. The lot consists of Virgil’s WWI Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal, which is unengraved, and his World War I Victory Medal, his wool discharge chevron, private purchase gilded pinback EGA, and his identification Bracelet that reads “PVT. VIRGIL H MULKEY / SEC. 2. Co. A. / MARINES / MARE ISLAND. CAL.” CONDITION: The insignia exhibits a fine patina. Nice ribbons on medals with slight fraying on WWI Victory medal. Bracelet exhibits wear on the reverse from wear.
