First Issue P.08 Luger manufactured by DWM under contract for the Imperial German military prior to World War I. The left side of the receiver bears an imperial German reichsadler (which are also present on the left side of the barrel and breechblock), followed by 2 DWM arsenal proofs. Toggle bears the intertwined "DWM" monogram. Front grip strap is unit marked "12./J.R.14.82", likely indicating issue to the 12th Jaeger Recruiting Depot, 14th Company, Rack number 82. Rear grip strap is stamped "12.82" towards the magazine well. Right side of frame exhibits a small circular area, indicating that this pistol was later retrofitted with a hold-open device. Pistol has been professionally restored, exhibiting a pleasant dark blue finish on major metal components, while some smaller components are strawed and nitre blued. Frame is mounted with a set of period checkered walnut grips. Matching numbers are present on the frame, takedown lever, sideplate, trigger, barrel, receiver, breechblock, as well as the toggles. Grips and firing pin are unnumbered. Magazine is a professionally produced replacement. CONDITION: Extremely fine, with metal components retaining bountiful amounts of their professionally reapplied blue finish, exhibiting few indications of extension handling overall. Bore exhibits moderate pitting and strong rifling throughout. Grips exhibit moderate smoothing as well as a few nicks to the diamonds overall, with the left grip panel bears a crack to the right of the safety lever. An extremely attractive example of a professionally restored DWM First Issue P.08 Luger. MLW
