Mauser Model 71/84 manufactured at the Spandau arsenal in 1888. The left side of the receiver bears the serial number followed by the model designation, while the right side bears the year of production "1888". Left barrel flat bears a crowned Spandau arsenal proof on either side of a "(Crown) / F.W." proof, with the right side bearing additional arsenal crowned proofs. Top of buttplate is unit marked "5.J.R./ 219.", indicating issue to the 5th Infantry Regiment. 1-piece smooth wood stock bears Imperial proofs on the right side of the butt and underside of the wrist. Receiver, bolt assembly, and buttplate are in-the-white, while the barrel, barrel bands, trigger guard, and trigger are blued. Matching numbers are present on the receiver, cutoff spring, bolt assembly, barrel, rear sight assembly, barrel bands, front barrel band screw, magazine tube cover/stacking rod, trigger guard, trigger guard screw, rear receiver tang screw, as well as the buttplate. Rifle is mounted with a period brown leather sling. CONDITION: In-the-white components exhibit a mottled brown patina overall, while the buttplate appears to have been cleaned at one point in time. Blued components exhibit wear and thinning overall, showing through to a pleasant brown patina, with some scattered spots of mild surface oxidation. Very bright bore, exhibiting some very light pitting and retaining strong rifling throughout. Stock shows some scattered nicks and marks from handling but is otherwise fine.
