Type 44 manufactured at the Kokura arsenal. Left side of receiver bears the serial number followed by the Kokura arsenal insignia. Top of receiver exhibits a ground chrysanthemum above Kanji characters denoting the model designation. Metal components exhibit a blue finish, while some smaller components are strawed or in-the-white. 2-piece stock and upper handguard are comprised of solid wood. Second variation bayonet housing has been modified via the removal of the bayonet provision and bayonet lug, and has been touched up. No matching numbers are present. CONDITION: Very good overall, with metal components retaining the majority of their original arsenal applied blue finish, exhibiting some minor areas of wear and some areas of light surface oxidation overall. Bayonet housing is excellent, as partially touched up. Bright bore, exhibiting good rifling throughout. Stock exhibits scattered dings, nicks, and handling marks, but is otherwise sturdy and serviceable. From the Personal Collection of Esteemed Firearms Researcher and Collector Edwin F. Libby. MLW
