Standard configuration K98k manufactured at the Waffenwerke Brunn arsenal in German occupied Czechoslovakia during the latter end of World War II. The receiver is stamped "dot" above a partially indiscernible "(Eagle) / 63" waffenamt and "1944" over the chamber, with a German eagle firing proof stamped on the left, with an 2 additional (Eagle / 63) waffenamts present on the right. 5 digit serial number without suffix "47640" is present on the left side of the barrel towards the breech. Stamped "qnw" marked trigger guard with stamped Mauser "byf" produced floorplate. Barrel bands are milled. Stock is unmarked with the exception of a single "C" stamp, which is present on the underside of the butt. Metal components are blued, with the stock and upper handguard being comprised of laminated wood. All serialized components are matching and include the barrel, forward barrel band, bolt body, and bolt sleeve. Rifle is mounted with a proper unmarked brown leather sling featuring a black enamel painted fastener. CONDITION: Extremely fine, with metal components retaining the vast majority of their original arsenal applied blue finish, exhibiting some mild thinning showing through to a pleasant brown patina, as well as some light wear showing through to gray. Bolt stop assembly exhibits moderate wear and some mild pitting on the side. Mirror bore, exhibiting sharp and well defined lands and grooves throughout. Stock is extremely fine, exhibiting few nicks and marks from storage and handling. Leather sling is excellent, showing a few spots of age related cracking and very light crazing. An exceptional example of a Waffenwerke Brunn 1944 production K98k bolt action rifle. From the Personal Collection of Esteemed Firearms Researcher and Collector Edwin F. Libby. MLW
