Lot consists of (A) Gewehr 1888 manufactured at the Danzig arsenal in 1891 and subsequently converted into an 88/05 configuration. Receiver is stamped with a crown over "DANZIG/ 1891" below an "S" stamp, indicating conversion for Spitzer ammunition. Left side of front barrel band is unit marked "118.R.10.243" indicating issue to the 118th Infantry Regiment, 10th Company, Rack #243, with the rear band being stamped with an additional unit marking "1.R.R.2.135", indicating issue to the 1st Reserve Infantry Regiment, 2nd Company, Rack #135. Receiver, bolt assembly, and buttplate are in-the-white; remaining components are blued. Receiver, barrel, and rear barrel band are matching. Bolt assembly matches itself. CONDITION: Blued components retain good amounts of their arsenal finish, exhibiting wear and thinning showing through to brown patina, with in-the-white components exhibiting age related discoloration overall. Bright bore, exhibiting good rifling throughout. Stock shows scattered handling marks and some minor losses. (B) Karabiner 88 manufactured at the V.C. Schilling arsenal in 1892. Receiver bears an "S" stamp above manufacturer markings, stipulating conversion to Spitzer ammunition. Front sight assembly is unit marked "B.4.Th.3.57". Receiver, barrel, rear sight, rear barrel band, trigger guard, and bolt assembly are matching. Stock is fitted with K98k pattern leather sling. CONDITION: Metal components exhibits a matte gray patina overall; receiver has been reblued and the bolt has been cleaned at one point in time. Bore exhibits some patches of pitting and retains strong rifling throughout. Stock shows some minor losses and some scattered impressions.
