Very nice pewter charger which displays the Viscounts Palmerston Crest which is presented in wonderful hand chased design. The bottom rim is engraved "Temple, Viscount Palmerston, 1768" and the top rim "(Crown) / PM". Viscount Palmerston was a title in the Peerage of Ireland that was created in 1723 for Henry Temple, who subsequently represented several districts in the British House of Commons. He was made Baron Temple, of Mount Temple in the County of Sligo, at the same time, also in the Peerage of Ireland. He was succeeded by his grandson, also Henry Temple, who became the 2nd Viscount, who represented seven constituencies in the House of Commons and served as a Lord of the Admiralty and Lord of the Treasury. This plate most dates to the time of the 2nd Viscount (1739-1802). CONDITION: The charger exhibits a pleasing patina and scattered blemishes with at least 2 small cracks.
