With increased demand for Connecticut militia troops during the War of 1812, the state ordered 3,000 muskets from various contractors. This example is marked only with "S.CT" ownership marks on lock and barrel, with additional Massachusetts proofs "P / SJ" and "M / 1813". Moller attributes these muskets to Lemuel Pomeroy of Massachusetts, a known contractor. Fit with a 38 - 1/2" barrel and faceted flat lock plate with brass flash pan. Stocked in walnut with iron furniture of early contract styling. CONDITION: Fine. Iron components have developed a mottled silvery brown patina. Stock has an age darkened appearance showing some some scattered impressions and a minor split ahead of the lock plate. Musket remains in it original flintlock configuration and is mechanically fine. A great War of 1812 state militia musket. BAS
