The round barrel has partially visible Tower view and proof marks in the center, towards breech. A notch is also on top, where a rear sight was added. Bayonet lug has been replaced with a brass sight. The convex lockplate is engraved "TOWER" at the tail and with a large crown over "GR" in the center. Stamped with crown and broad arrow below pan, denoting government ownership. Standard brass Short Land Pattern brass furniture, wrist escutcheon engraved "D / 24". Partially figured walnut stock. Replaced modern iron ramrod. CONDITION: Barrel retains a mottled grey patina with scattered pitting, heavier at breech. Barrel has been cut 1" at muzzle. Touch hole has recently been altered. Lock is in its original flintlock configuration, frizzen and frizzen spring screws are period replacements, as well as top jaw. Brass retains a pleasing patina. Stock shows scattered marks from use and minor age cracks. Some minor damage and filling at muzzle. Sling swivels absent. A nice Brown Bess with an attractive figured stock. DMG
