A very nice example of an early halberd in the German or Swiss style. The halberd is a type of poleaxe that was used as a mainstay weapon for many armies over the course of several centuries. This example features a larger head that measures approximately 19" and is pierced with several circular decorations. Given the small head and these decorations, this example is most likely German or Swiss. The head was painted gold at some point. A pair of iron straps, each secured with 5 flat, misshapen rivets secure the head to the haft. The haft is narrower at the top and was made as a replacement to accommodate the head. The halberd measures approximately 91". CONDITION: The head exhibits a heavy patina with scattered areas of delamination and traces of gold paint. Haft exhibits blemishes from handling and age. A very nice early halberd head that is quite displayable with the haft.
Item Dimensions: 91 x 12 x 3"
