This is an important letter sent to Napoleon from Octavien d'Alvimart after the latter was nominated for promotion to chef de brigade, with the French Ministry of War only acknowledging a promotion to chef d'escadron. D'Alivmart was known to have complained about this, and the contents of the letter requests that Napoleon intervene. Napoleon's famously difficult handwriting is nearly impossible to read, but the signature has been authenticated by JSA as legitimate. Dated Vendemiaire An X (September 1801). Professionally framed with print of an etching by Carlo Vernet of Napoleon at camp during the Italian Campaign, a standing etching of Napoleon, and 2 medals. One medal shows a silhouette of Napoleon with "NAPOLEON I IMPEREUR" with a Roman laurel wreath, a second laurel wreath about the perimeter, and surmounted by a crown, and a Legion d'honneur star. Items not examined out of frame to see reverses as frame is sealed. This signature comes with a James Spence Authentication Full Letter of Authenticity. CONDITION: Letter with age related discoloration, some foxing, and a crease to lower left. Normal fold line across middle when letter was folded. "Emperur" medal is with some patination but clear, Legion of Honor star with some minor chipping to enamel. Frame has chipping to exterior, but solid. EMW
