US Model 1863 manufactured by Charles B. Hoard of Watertown, New York, and dated 1864. Hoard was originally contracted for 70,000 rifled muskets between 1861-1865 but was only able to deliver 12,800. 40" barrel in .58 caliber with blade front sight and Model 1855 rear sight. 1-piece walnut stock with iron mountings and US marked buttplate. Barrel is dated 1864 near breech, with typically seen VP eagle proof on left barrel flat above woodline. Complete with period socket bayonet. CONDITION: Excellent, retaining a majority of its original National Armory Bright finish with light age related freckling throughout. Markings are crisp. Stock is very good as lightly sanded with cartouches no longer visible, scattered handling marks, and no major cracks. Mechanically fine. Bright bore for its age, with light abrasion throughout and well-defined rifling. Bayonet is very good with minor freckling.
