Standard grade rifle with 28" blued octagon barrel with full magazine, Lyman front sight, and Marlin semi-buckhorn rear sight. Receiver has the 1st style "step" on bottom front of frame with solid carrier. Top flat of barrel has 2nd type roll marking of "J.M. MARLIN" with arrows at each end. Mounted with nicely figured, slab-sawed uncheckered American walnut straight stock with smooth steel semi-crescent buttplate. PROVENANCE: Bob Docker Collection. See "Lever Action Magazine Rifles" by Samuel Maxwell. CONDITION: Overall fine with barrel and magazine tube retaining about 50% of original blue with finish turning to a dull blue and turning plum. Receiver turning to a plum brown patina. Strong in sheltered areas. Lever and hammer retain fading case colors. Wood is sound but has about a 1" piece of wood missing on top of both sides where upper tang meets the receiver. Usual nicks, dings and dark bruises near buttplate with about 75% original varnish remaining. Good strong bright bore with good mechanics.
