This battle-worn Revolutionary War musket is featured on pg. 53 of "Accouterments V" by James R. Johnston. The American alterations include removing the front 2 barrel bands and attaching sheet brass ramrod ferrules. In addition, the buttstock comb was reshaped. It is accompanied by a very nice American plug bayonet measuring about 8 - 3/4" overall with a double-edged diamond-section blade of 5 - 5/8". The round barrel has a faceted breech section, left side stamped "65". The flat lockplate is stamped with a crown over "H", inscribed in center "Manuf. Royale / de St. Etienne". Standard Model 1763 furniture. Period iron ramrod. Stocked in walnut. CONDITION: Completely untouched and "as found" condition. Dark patinas on iron components with scattered pitting. Lock has an American-replaced frizzen screw, markings very good. Original flintlock configuration. Stock shows a great deal of use and wear and tear. Bayonet is in comparable condition. A very interesting musket with a great deal of history. This is most likely one that fought hard for our Independence. DMG
