This pattern of pistol would serve as the template for the North and Cheney 1799 pistol, America's first martial pistol, and were commonly sent to American soldiers by the French during the Revolutionary War. Round iron barrel with offset trumpet headed ramrod that feeds directly into action. Reinforced cock with "Charleville" in half moon underneath the cock. Brass action housing with belt hook, brass trigger guard guard affixed by pair of screws. Flat trigger. Brass buttcap and iron backstrap. Visible French proof on action, just above frizzen spring. Faint illegible proof on right side of stock. CONDITION: Good as heavily polished and buffed. Barrel is bright metal with no visible legends and spots of oxidation. Brass also heavily polished and golden throughout. Stock is very good with handling and use marks throughout. Mechanically fine, bore has a minimum of oxidation. A nice example. EMW
