Classic configuration of the Napoleonic French police pistol with double strap nosecap, faintly birdshead grip, reinforced cock, bridled pan. Lock marked for manufacture by Mauberg, with "M" proof on lock behind cock, "8 E" proofs on barrel, offset at breech. Cock a replacement as reconverted, with touch hole rebushed when converted back to flintlock. Ramrod replaced, too short, and stuck in channel. Original spring loaded retainer has been replaced by a screw and fragmentary spring left in stock. CONDITION: Metal furniture and barrel essentially dove grey with an even darkness and some peppering. Lock darker, but with legible inscriptions. Stock with numerous handling marks, some chipping (mostly around strap), and an excellent repair behind lock. Mechanically fine, bore is very good with minimum oxidation and visible evidence of reconversion at breech. EMW
