Nearly identical to its precursor, the Lee-Metford, the Lee-Enfield has updated Enfield style rifling with the appropriate "E" stamped over the chamber. This example was manufactured in 1901 and bears the cypher of Queen Victoria. Rifle features arsenal applied blued finish throughout, a 30" barrel chambered in .303, rear ladder sight graduated to 1,700 yards, volley sights, and a full length walnut stock with iron mounts. Brass buttplate is marked on the tang "5 / PLDG / B / 4", indicating this rifle was rifle 4 of the Squadron B of the 5th Princess Louse Dragoon Guards organized in Ottowa, Canada. The 5th PLDG contributed volunteers to both the Second Boer War and First World War. Rifle is complete with a period white painted leather sling and Wilkinson P1888 bayonet with scabbard. CONDITION: Very good overall, retaining the vast majority of the arsenal blued finish with some areas of toning. Stock has some scattered impressions with stamps legible. Strong, lightly frosted bore. Mechanically fine. BAS
