Model 98/29 Mauser pattern bolt action rifle manufactured by BRNO of Czechoslovakia under contract for Persia (Iran), as part of the original order of 180,000 rifles, which was not completed due to the German invasion and subsequent occupation of Czechoslovakia. The receiver bears the Persian coat of arms over the receiver, with Persian characters on the left side, and additional Persian characters followed by a crown proof present on the right. Underside of barrel bears a SAMCO import stamp, while the rear sight side of the receiver bears the importer applied serial number. Major metal components exhibit a lustrous blue finish, while bolt assembly, buttplate, and bayonet lug are in-the-white. Stock and upper handguard are comprised of solid wood. Matching Persian serial number "6779P" is present on the receiver, bolt, and the buttstock. Cleaning rod is present. Includes bayonet. CONDITION: Excellent, with metal components retaining bountiful amounts of their original blue finish, exhibiting a few spots of mild wear and mild surface oxidation, with some areas of hardened grease present overall. In-the-white components exhibit some very mild oxidation and age related discoloration, but are otherwise fine. Brilliant mirror bore, exhibiting sharp and well defined lands and grooves throughout. Stock exhibits some scattered dings and impressions from storage and handling, but is otherwise fine. Few examples of these scarce rifles show up for sale in the United States, especially in such high condition.
