John Edgson is recorded with working in Stamford, Lincolnshire, with working dates 1797-1816; this pistol predates circa 1810 as he changed to John & David Edgson about that time. Octagonal barrel is signed on top flat "EDGSON, STAMFORD", with a diminutive bead front sight and notch sight mounted to rear tang. Barrel retained by single key through a silver escutcheon. A newer darkwood ramrod is retained by a reinforced mouth with integral second strap designed to mimic a ferrule. Flat stepped lock with fenced waterproof pan, bridled pan cover, roller bearing frizzen, signed "EDGSON" in center, with rays at step and lock bolt, with a single diminutive floral under stalking safety. Stalking safety with replaced tab. Swan neck cock with light engraving. Trigger guard with pineapple finial, stand of arms, and bordered engraving. Plain bag grip. CONDITION: Barrel has been cleaned, withblight peppering and some spotted oxidation throughout, primarily dove grey. Lock with less peppering than barrel, primarily dove grey. Stocks are very good with some handling marks and storage throughout, with minor areas of raised varnish on right side of grip. Mechanically fine, bore is very good. with minimum of oxidation. Formerly part of collection of Allan Klein.
