Model 1883 Reichsrevolver manufactured by V.C. Schilling & C.G. Haenel. The left side of the frame sideplate bears the serial number "27" followed by the manufacturer stampings within an oval, as well as a "1920" stamp, indicating that this revolver was retained under the Treaty of Versailles. Lower left frame and barrel octagonal flats bears arsenal proofs, while the underside of the barrel and frame bear "S" proofs. Rear grip strap is unit marked "H.S.M.F.C. No. 27.", which is an unusual unit mark, unknown by this cataloger. Major metal components exhibit a lustrous blue finish, while some smaller components are in-the-white. Frame is mounted with 2-piece checkered walnut grips. Nearly all numbers are matching (frame, barrel, cylinder, cylinder pin, loading gate, loading gate screws, cylinder pin release button, frame sideplate, sideplate screws, safety lever, grips, grip screw plates, grip screw hammer, transfer bar, trigger, trigger spring, trigger spring screw, trigger guard, mainspring, as well as the square mainspring & trigger spring screw), with only the safety lever screw mismatched. CONDITION: Metal components retain large amounts of their original factory applied lustrous blue finish, exhibiting areas of wear and thinning overall that show through to pleasant gray and brown patinas, with areas of light surface oxidation present overall. In-the-white components exhibit areas of age-related discoloration. Very bright bore, exhibiting surface level pitting and well-defined lands and grooves throughout. Checkered walnut grips exhibit smoothing, with a few scattered handling marks and small impressions. An exceptionally attractive, nearly all matching, Model 1883 Reichsrevolver with an extremely low serial number and an unusual unit marking. MLW
