For a similar example of this hilt, see 326.S on page 170 of "Swords & Blades of the American Revolution" by George C. Neumann. The triangular blade is tapered and there are gilt foliate scrolls towards the top on all 3 sides. Silver hilt with wagon wheel guard and shell-shaped forward turned quillon. The pierced divided branch knucklebow is a separate piece that joins the guard. Silver ball pommel with integral ferrule atop the grip. Finely gadrooned and spiraling ivory grip made with two pieces. CONDITION: Blade is tight to hilt, original leather washer present. Blade retains a brown patina, gilt finish has some wear and has patinated. Hilt retains a mostly pewter patina with some darker areas. Grip retains a pleasing honey patina, one side lighter than the other from light exposure. A very attractive American small sword. Formerly part of the Allan Klein Collection. DMG
