Standard configuration P.08 Luger manufactured by DWM for the Imperial German military during the onset of World War I. The receiver is stamped "1915" over the chamber, with DWM arsenal proofs followed by an Imperial German reichsadler on the right. Toggle bears the intertwined "DMW" monogram. Front grip strap is unit marked "181.R." indicating issue to the 181st Infantry Regiment. Major metal components retain a rust blued finish, while some smaller components are strawed and nitre blued. Frame is mounted with 2-piece checkered walnut grips. All numbers are matching (including the grips), except for the magazine, which is mismatched. This example is accompanied by a scanned document detailing the history of the 181st Infantry Regiment. CONDITION: Extremely fine, with major metal components retaining bountiful amounts of their original factory-applied rust blue finish, exhibiting some mild edge wear, a few superficial marks from handling and storage, and a few small spots of mild surface oxidation. Strawed components show some wear and age-related discoloration. Very bright bore, exhibiting very light inactive surface oxidation and strong rifling throughout. Grips show some smoothing and a couple nicks and impressions to the diamonds, but are otherwise fine. An exceptionally attractive 1915 production DWM P.08 Luger.
