Fine contemporary flintlock rifle built by John F. Bergmann circa 1980. 41 -1/2" octagonal .50 caliber rifled barrel with German silver Rocky Mountain front sight and notched rear sight. Barrel signed "J.F. Bergmann" in script; crowned muzzle and pair of platinum bands at breech and muzzle. Siler style flint lock with floral engraving and double set trigger control. Full darkly finished curly maple stock, highly embellished with raised floral carving pattern behind cheek and raised shell pattern around tang. Exquisite moulding carving coming back to a swelled grip at balance point making the rifle very comfortable to aim. Well executed wooden carved sliding lid patchbox. Stock is also decorated with five silver engraved inlays including a hunter's star with the German phrase "Gott und Heimat" or "God and Country" engraved on it. 2" wide iron browned finish buttplate with browned iron stock hardware including lock back plate with line engraving and inlaid silver 5-pointed shooting star. CONDITION: Overall excellent with minor handling marks. Excellent bore with strong sparking lock and crisp mechanics. A beautiful contemporary gun.
