Made at Springfield Armory in 1862. Round 40" barrel bored out to approximately .60 smoothbore with pinned blade front sight and 1858 style 3 leaf rear sight (missing 2 leaves). Percussion lock dated 1862 and marked "US / SPRINGFIELD" with single trigger control. Military walnut stock with iron hardware including "U.S." marked buttplate and 3 barrel bands. Traces of original stock cartouches with owner's initials and date scratched on left side of rifle and traced in red paint or wax. Comes with original steel tulip head ramrod. CONDITION: Overall good with honest wear. Metal shows some light pitting and has turned a plum brown patina with added coat of old oil solidified over surface. Wood has usage marks and dings with chip missing above the front of lock with no visible repairs or restoration. Dark bore with functioning mechanics.
