John Hunter's "A Treatise on the Blood, Inflammation and Gunshot Wounds" was published in 1794 and was considered the most important study of inflammation throughout the 19th century. This 1794 copy lacks the engraved portrait frontispiece by William Sharp but is signed on the first page by the original owner and appears to read "Lloyd Hewlett Bailey / Univ. Coll.". The book appears to be otherwise complete with all of its original pages. There is also a letter penned by John Hunter, as well as 2 letters which were written to Dr. John K. Lattimer contained inside the front cover. The book was once part of the renowned collection of Dr. John K. Lattimer, who was known to collect medical memorabilia. The book is accompanied by a copy of "The Reluctant Surgeon" which is a biography of John Hunter's life. The letter comes with a James Spence Authentication Full Letter of Authenticity. CONDITION: The book exhibits blemishes that are typical of old texts, including yellowing, edge wear to pages, scattered blemishes, and wear to the covers.
