Hussey was a particularly colorful character of the English gun trade, with Nigel Brown referring to him as a rogue in his seminal work on British gunmakers. Dovetail lumped barrels with a now largely gone barrel address; appears to be the New Bond address. Smooth solid tapering rib with steel bead front sight, address, and "2" inlaid in gold; light engraving at breech ends. Barrel flats with newer proofs including nitro, tubes with patching 14034 numbers, ejectors. Splinter forearm with Anson style button release, engraved with florals on visible iron, gold inlaid "2" at tip. Interior iron with matching serial number and "2". 7 pin sidelock with cocking indicators, engraved in rose-and-scroll, with gold inlaid "H.J. HUSSEY. LTD". Bottom of action with "IMPERIAL / EJECTOR". Trigger guard with light engraving en suite with serial number on tang. Top lever with gold inlaid "2"; automatic safety with "SAFE" inlaid in full. Royal styled grip with diamond cross section, checkered. Brass plate along toe line. Horn buttplate. Housed in a leather brass tabbed with tablet on lid, which has been overlaid at least once, showing several different initials; "G.E. (?)" most recent. Other interesting luggage stickers such as White Line. Interior with a cleaning rod, rolled gun sock, pair snapcaps, glass Beesley oil bottle, turnscrew, tool handle, and other assorted miscellaneous tools like tweezers. H.J. Hussey label in lid, post-Lang & Hussey partnership. With the original release paperwork when imported by Griffin and Howe. CONDITION: Overall good to very good, having benefitted from some careful attention. Barrels are reblacked with softening to engraving mentioned above. Wood with heavily softened checkering throughout, brass tab on toeline a probable replacement. Action is very good, essentially silver metal, with crisp engraving and a few spots of patination. Mechanically fine, bores are good with some light frosting towards chambers. Ejectors are in time, barrels are on face. Horn buttplate with crack to top screw. Case is very good with age related distress and peeling, moreso to interior.
