American Historical Foundation Field Marshall Erwin J. E. Rommel commemorative pistol, manufactured from what was originally a World War II production Spreewerke P.38 pistol, indicated by the faint "(Eagle) / 88" waffenamt present on the left side of the frame. The left side of the receiver is embellished with "1981 FIELD MARSHAL ERWIN J.E. ROMMEL 1944" within a banner. Both sides of the slide feature oak leaf engraving on a stippled background, with matching engraving present on the barrel in a band engraved around the muzzle. Barrel and slide feature a high polish blue finish, while the frame is finished in a matte blue. Trigger, hammer, and safety lever have been gold plated. Frame is mounted with 2-piece checkered wood grips, with the left panel featuring a "DEUTCHES AFRIKAKORPS" medallion. Underside of trigger guard bears the new serial number "ER003C". Barrel and locking block match the frame's original serial number "8033i", with the slide matching via a hand-scribed serial number in electro-pencil on the interior. Magazine is of Walther manufacture. Pistol is accompanied by an unmarked wood display case, featuring a blue felt interior. CONDITION: Excellent, with metal components retaining virtually all of their reapplied blue and gold finishes, exhibiting few minor superficial marks from handling and storage. Mirror bore, exhibiting areas of grease and retaining strong rifling throughout. Grips are very good overall. Case exhibits some minor handling marks and is missing its lid latch.
