THIRD REICH SS HONOR RING.

An extremely desirable textbook World War II wartime awarded "SS-Ehrenring" (SS Honor Ring). The inside is engraved "H. Himmler S. Lb. Homann 21. 12. 43". Heinrich Himmler was the Reichsfuehrer of the SS, and a leading member of the NSDAP, and all Honor Rings will carry his facsimile signature. "S. Lb." means "Seinen Lieben" (basically "his loved ones"). "Homann' is the name of the SS officer recipient, and "21. 12. 43" is December 21, 1943, the date of the award. The name "Homann" does not show up the list of "known" awardees. The number of known awardees is 6,752, and that list can be found online, as well as in Klaus D. Patzwall's book "Der SS-Totenkopfring - Seine Illustriete Geschichte 1933-1945". That list, however, contains less than half of the ring awardees. A list was complied by the "SS-Personalhauptamt" (SS Personnel Main Office) in January of 1945. They compiled a report on ring number awards and concluded that 14,752 rings were awarded from April 1936 to December 1944. That number does not, therefore, include rings awarded from December 1933 to April 1936, and after December 1944 to the end of World War II. As this ring was awarded in December 1943, and less than half of the number of rings awarded are documented by awardee, it is of no concern that "Homann" is not found on the known awardee list. The ring was made of silver and adorned on the top with a skull and crossbones, with Germanic runes and oak leaves around the band. There is no silver content marking, as is correct for these. The ring presents a good deal of honest natural wear, with a tiny nick on the top rear. The emblem on the rear exhibit heavy wear, and those on the side exhibit moderate wear. Two noted experts in SS Honor rings (one being an author of a book on these) were consulted and confirmed the ring is authentic. The skull exhibits light wear.
