Fine percussion Kentucky style halfstock muzzleloading rifle made circa 1850 by Nathaniel Melchoir of Baltimore, Maryland. 35" octagonal .36 caliber rifled barrel with hunting sights, double platinum barrel bands, and patent breech percussion ignition system. Maker marked back action percussion lock with double set trigger control. Checkered walnut half-stock with engraved German silver hardware. Comes with threaded steel ramrod. CONDITION: Overall good with metal finish turning a plum patina. Traces of original varnish with usage dings and marks with coat of wax or linseed oil. Good bore with crisp mechanics.
