Circa 1891. A vintage game gun with dovetailed 28" Damascus barrels with ejectors and steel front sight. 18 Brook Street address on smooth concave game rib with extension and "1" towards breech indicating it was once part of a set. Action with third fastener and flats with a recent reproof for nitro, 2 - 3/4" chambers. Chokes are Cylinder and Cylinder, although with the innovations of recessed choking patterning with todays loads would present more like Modified and Improved Cylinder. Slender splinter forearm checkered in point pattern with small escutcheon at tip and equipped with a Deeley release. Matching serial number visible on inside of forearm, stamped in wood, with engraving to exterior iron. Water table with "EJECTORS", view and proof marks. 5-pin sidelock action with dipped edges and cocking indicators, signed "James Lang" on either plate, engraved with English pattern rose and scroll. Automatic safety with "1" on selector, and "SAFE" inlaid in gold. Double triggers are protected by a long tang guard, engraved en suite, with serial number along tang. Stock with teardrops behind action, point pattern checkering about the wrist, nice straight grain stock with checkered ebonite buttplate. Housed in a newer canvas wrapped case with leather tabs containing a 3 part cleaning rod, snap caps, and original Heritage Guns hangtag. Accompanying paperwork consists of measurements as provided by Heritage Guns, and a letter from Robert Hodges. CONDITION: Excellent as refurbished by Heritage Guns in the UK. Barrels with excellent clear Damascus pattern and some light handling marks. Sidelock largely gunmetal, with crisp engraving. Wood is very good with some light handling marks throughout, as refreshed by Heritage. Mechanically fine, bores are excellent with a minimum of frosting. Case is very good as new. Would be an excellent field gun.
