Circa 1877. Dovetail 30" nitro proofed (sleeved) barrels with extractors, smooth concave, tapered game rib. Rib marked "BOSS & CO. 73, St. James's STREET. LONDON." Numerous proofs on water table; London and more recent Birmingham (2019). Barrel flats marked "SLEEVED". Chokes are Modified in left barrel and Improved Cylinder in right. Original barrels appear to have been Damascus, with evidence of twist under refurbishment. Light engraving at the breech. Rare and handsome pull-lever release in forend made of checkered walnut, with light engraving on exterior iron, interior serial numbers matching. Action flats with serial number, view proof, and modern nitro proof. Sculpted fences decorated with light engraving, dolphin form hammers, with scroll engraved on cocks. Sideplated action with well executed English scroll and "Boss & Co". Trigger guard with engraving en suite, newly nitre blued double triggers. Serial number on bottom long strap. Slightly offset blacked engraved top lever and vertical sliding breech block. Lovely, dark, flame grained stock with tear drops behind action, checkered walnut grip, golden "AW" engraved oval on toeline. Buttstock with black leather covered pad with covered screws. Housed in a modern leather wrapped case with newer trade label in lid, cleaning kit in pouch, brass snap caps. CONDITION: Very good as benefitting from a complete refurbishment. Barrels retain most a good quality reblack and softening legends. Bores are good. Stock and forearm and very good with some handling marks and crazing to finish. Metal essentially bright metal throughout with a few minor areas of darkness. Mechanically fine. Case is excellent.
