Overall length: 22 inches. Barrel length: 12 inches. This ornately decorated barrel on this small blunderbuss could possibly be a sign of its Mediterranean origin. The top of the barrel is extremely ornate with silver inlay (and some gold as well) showing thistles and birds, possibly indicated Scottish manufacture (thus negating the Mediterranean origin). In addition, the upper section of the barrel has an inlaid gold crest which may signify its original ownership. The walnut stock is fairly plain with some simple wrist incising and it has a recycled brass butt plate and an altered, recycled brass acorn finish trigger-guard. The percussion lock (originally flintlock) appears to be recycled as well. All of this work may indicate American manufacture in the early 19th century.
ENGRAVED BLUNDERBUSS.
